Amitabh Bachchan has some distinct styles of acting which have made him very popular across all the age groups from 8 to 80

His most popular styles have been The Angry Young and now Old Man, The action hero image, The Drrrunk comedy and serious scenes, The Death scenes, The emotional moments, The craaaazy comedy, The quiet romantic dude, The Serious Cinema and The All-in-one roles

I will try and mention some of his distinct styles

ANGRY AND FIERY AMITABH: The 'angry young man' personna was created by writers like Salim-Javed, and that took Mr. Bachchan to his height of popularity with the masses at a time when social movements were in the air and people wanted to break free of the system. In movies like Zanzeer, Deewar, Trishul, Kaala Patthar and finally with Agneepath! Agneepath he stamped his Eternal Angry look.

DRRRRRUNK AMITABH: In drunk roles, Big B epitomized the 'Arthur'(Hollywood) + 'Devdas' (Bollywood) character. His most popular drunk roles are in movies like Amar Akbar Anthony, Mukkadar Ka Sikander, Suhaag, Satte Pe Satta, Naseeb, Hum and he finally stamped the Ultimate 'DRUNK' role in SHARAABI. In Sharabi, a drunk Amitabh is on the screen for more than two and half hours and still captivates the audience. (Sharaabi - In Hindi means drunk)

The DYING AMITABH: Amitabh Bachchan is a master in performing 'death' scenes or scenes in which he is 'dying'. People literally did not see the movie 'Sholay' because Amitabh dies in the end. Movies like Sholay, Deewar, Don (Original Don), Mukkadar Ka Sikander, Shakti and Agneepath created a magical rejuvenation for Amitabh. Big B Dies in all these movies.

Be it the sacrificing friend in Sholay, The ' losing billa' scene and later being shot by his brother scene in Deewar, The original 'Don' dying and the dying scene in Shakti after being shot by his dad are just brilliant. The 'Ghar Chal Maa' scene in Agneepath. The scene, complete with the blazing- burning makeup create the most memorable implants of a death scene

The ROMANTIC AMITABH: The quiet shy romantic roles were well suited for this quiet and shy actor. His combination with Yash Chopra, Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Bhattacharya displayed the romantic side of his acting style in movies like Kabhi Kabhi, Silsila, Bemisaal, Alaap, Jurmaana, and Manzil. Amitabh continued the light hearted romantic 'elements' in movies like Amar Akbar Anthony, Naseeb, Suhaag, Mr. Natwarlal, Yaarana, Sharaabi and lots of other movies.

The ALL-IN-ONE AMITABH: Amitabh’s transformation from the intense young man of seventies to the complete entertainer of the eighties created a mass hysteria. Fans wanted to see all the shades of Amitabh. In one single movie he had to be a complete action hero, comedian, drunk, romantic and all this as the good guy personna.

SOME NICE SCENES: (click on the image to view scene)

Trishul extended AB's image as the angry young man. Scenes where he takes ambulance everywhere before clearing the coons are just phenomenonal.

Some very popular dialogues from the movie - "Sahi baat sahi waqt pe kiya jaye to uska maza hi kuch aur hai, Aur main sahi waqt ka intezaar karta hoon." "Jisne pachchees saal se apni Maa ko thoda thoda marte dekha ho, use maut se kya dar lagega". "Mai panch lakh ka sauda karne aya hoon, aur mere jeb me panch phooti kaudi bhi nahin hai!"

Sholay showed the lighter side of Big B. His slow style of dialogue speaking and the non-verbal chemistry with Jaya created an aura of sympathy and liking for the character. Audience connected with every character in Sholay and AB's character gains the most sympathy as the sacrificing friend.

Some very popular dialogues from the movie - "Tumhara Naam kya hai, Basanti?" "Pehli baar suna hai ye naam." "Hum bhi to roz khatro se khelte hai." "Ghadi Ghadi drama karta hai, saala." "Ab Kya bataoon Mausi.." "James Bond ke potein hain yeh" "Angrezon ke zamaane ke jailer, aur itni si ghabrahat?"

Shakti was a dream come true for AB was working with childhood idol Dilip Kumar. Shakti was an extension of the anguish of Deewar combined by the dynamics between a law abiding father and a smuggler son. This movie inspired 'City by the Sea' by Robert De Niro.

Some very popular dialogues from the movie - "Roma Mere baap ne dou shaadiyan ki". Mere baap ki pahli shaadi ka beta main hoon. Mere baap ki doosri biwi ka beta hain - kanoon..kanoon!"

Deewar put AB on the pedestal of SUPERSTAR. His Actions scenes, confrontation scene with his brother who is on the right side of law, Confrontation scenes with God, His emotions, actions and dialogue blew the audience away. Never had such a huge impact been seen on the Indian movie scene. The angry young man was here to stay forever.

Some very popular dialogues from the movie - "Main aaj bhi phenke hue paise nahin uthata." "Haan, mai sign karoonga, lekin pehle oos aadmi ki sign le ke aao, jisne mera baap ko chor kaha tha; pehle oos aadmi ka sign le ke aao jisne meri maa ko gali deke naukri se nikal diya tha; pehle oos aadmi ka sign le ke aao jisne mere haath pe ye leekh diya thaa, Uske BAAD, oos ke baad, mere bhai, tum jo kaagaz pe kahoge oos par me sign karoonga."

Main Azaad Hoon was inspired by 'Meet John Doe'. Nonetheless, the performance by The Bachchan is just phenomenonal.

Some very popular dialogues from the movie - "Main mar gayaa tou tum mujhe bhool jaana. Magar yaad rakhna Azaad ko..uske paighaam ko Ki Zitney baajoo utney sar..ginley dushman shyaan se..haaregaa woh har baajee jab khele hum jee jaan se !"

Some MORE - POPULAR dialogues:

Sharaabi
- "Jis Ghar Mein Meena Nahin" Dialogue Scene

Just before this Scene, Vicky's (Name of AB in Sharaabi) dad ridicules his love for Meena (Jaya Pradha). The scene is real intense. Bachchan Saab portrays the "passion of his love" and "frustration of a rich boy" stuck under his dad's authority.

Phenomenonally written, directed and BRILLIANTLY ACTED by Mr. Amitabh Bachchan.

Shakti - "Roma mere baap ne dou shaadi" Dialogue Scene Just before this Scene, Vijay (Name of AB in Shakti) comes back from Jail. His dad (who is very disciplined Police Inspector) fails to prevent him from going to the jail. His mentor (who is a gangster)bails him out. This acts like a last blow in his mind that his dad does not love him and his dad loves his duty more than him. The scene is typical of "Bachchan's drunken style of acting". Again it is the love and frustration of a son towards his dad.

More to be added....Shehenshah, Coolie, Kaalia, AAA, Khuda Gawah, Agneepath..and many more..!

"Rishte mai to hum tumhare baap lagte hai, naam hai Shahenshah."

"Mukhtar Singh ka naam suna hai?

"Mucche ho to Nathulal jaisi, warna na ho."

"Do aansoo ees aankh se gire, phir do oos aankh se. Phir do ees aankh se, do oos aankh se. Phir do oos aankh se, do oos aankh se. Kitne huye?...Nau lakh ke haar ke liye, Barah lakh ke Aanso? Daddy hote to kehte, Vijay tumhe business karna nahi aata?"

"Daaru peene se liver kharab hota hai. Bahut boori cheez hai."

"I can talk English, I can walk English, and I can laugh English because English is a very phunny language. Bhairo becomes Byron because their minds are very narrow."

"Kacha papad, Pakka Papad."

"Hum jahaan khade ho jaate hain line wahi se shuru hoti hain.."

"Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahin, namumkin hai."
